Facts on Pistachios

The pistachio (Pistacia vera) is a small tree originating from Central Asia and the Middle East. The tree produces seeds that are widely consumed as food.

Iran is the largest producer of pistachios, followed by the United States (primarily California) and Turkey. Pistachios have been cultivated for thousands of years and were once considered food for royalty.

Pistachios are rich in protein, fiber, and antioxidants. They are one of the lowest-calorie nuts and are associated with numerous health benefits including heart health, weight management, and blood sugar control. The green color comes from antioxidants called lutein and zeaxanthin.
